Why did I start Heartache and Hope?
When I had my first miscarriage, I was shocked, grieving, and confused. I had decisions to make, and I didn’t know the first thing about what to expect.
Well-known medical and pregnancy sites provided vague information. They seemed impersonal and didn’t give me much help. It was difficult to find good research articles to guide my decisions on short notice and while upset and distracted.
The best resource I had was a Reddit group. And while the real experiences of these women on Reddit were invaluable, I felt that women going through pregnancy loss and pregnancy after loss deserved better. They deserved to be able to find good information in one place, including real life experiences and easy-to-comprehend summaries of the current research findings. I’m going to do my best to build that for all of you here.
Goals for the future:
One of my big goals is to create informational handouts that could be printed for free and used by individuals or healthcare providers. I’ve heard too many stories of women receiving insensitive or totally irrelevant patient education handouts and discharge packets from the healthcare providers. In fact, I was one of those people given a totally inappropriate discharge packet.
Keep an eye out for these in the future as they become available, and if you feel led, speak about these resources with your healthcare providers so that they can better help others.
Get to Know Sarah
Hi, I’m Sarah, the writer of Heartache and Hope. I have a Doctorate in Physical Therapy and I was a Director of Rehabilitation, but I have taken a step back from my healthcare career to find a better balance for my family.
I have one living child, followed by 4 miscarriages and a chemical pregnancy. This has taken it’s toll on us, but we haven’t given up yet. We are carried each day by hope in Christ and the support of our family.
I enjoy being a mom to my son, playing frisbee with my dog, and gardening and canning.
